Chinese BBQ Pork Bun

This Chinese BBQ Pork Bun (叉烧包) is one of my mom’s authentic Chinese recipes, tested and tried, pretty good really. We sometimes have these paus for dinner and can practicallywallop5 to 6 buns at one go.

This Chinese BBQ pork recipe uses oyster sauce but if you prefer, you can useChar Siewsauce that can easily be bought at your nearby grocery store. You may also replace pork with chicken, if you wish. Then you’d have the BBQ Chicken Bun recipe instead of the Chinese BBQ Pork Bun recipe.

Ingredients For BBQ Pork Filling:

  • 250 g Pork Belly, cut into bite sizes
  • 1 tsp Maggi Seasoning Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp Sugar 1 Onion; diced
  • 1 tbsp Oyster Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Dark Soya Sauce
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 100 ml Water
  • 1 tsp Corn Flour
  • 1 tbsp Cooking Oil

Ingredients For Buns (Steamed Buns):

  • 60 g Vegetable Shortening
  • 1 kg Pau Flour (lowprotein flour)
  • 240 g Castor Sugar
  • 4 tsp Baking Powder
  • 50 g Dry Yeast
  • 400 ml Warm Water
  • 12 2 inch Square Parchment Papers
