Halva Iranian style

Halva is a favorite dessert throughout the Middle East. Few people manage to prepare it successfully at home. But if you follow our recipe you’ll get a sweet and rich dessert perfect with tea or coffee.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup wheat flour ( 250 g ) (Whole wheat flour works perfect in this recipe)
  • 3/4 cup oil (200g )
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup sugar ( 200 g )
  • 1/2 teaspoon saffron
  • 2 tablespoons cardamom
  • 1/4 cup rosewater (optional)
  • Sliced almond, pistachio, coconut powder, sesame seed to garnish (optional)

Cooking:

Add sugar to one glass of water and bring to a boil. Add saffron, cardamom and rosewater (if available) and stir, bring it to a boil again and turn off the heat. Let it cool slightly.

In a pan roast flour on medium heat, stir frequently until colour changes to golden, and release a nutty fragrant. Add oil (at this stage you can determine the color of the final product of Halva).
