Halva is a favorite dessert throughout the Middle East. Few people manage to prepare it successfully at home. But if you follow our recipe you’ll get a sweet and rich dessert perfect with tea or coffee.
- 1 cup wheat flour ( 250 g ) (Whole wheat flour works perfect in this recipe)
- 3/4 cup oil (200g )
- 1 cup water
- 3/4 cup sugar ( 200 g )
- 1/2 teaspoon saffron
- 2 tablespoons cardamom
- 1/4 cup rosewater (optional)
- Sliced almond, pistachio, coconut powder, sesame seed to garnish (optional)
Add sugar to one glass of water and bring to a boil. Add saffron, cardamom and rosewater (if available) and stir, bring it to a boil again and turn off the heat. Let it cool slightly.
In a pan roast flour on medium heat, stir frequently until colour changes to golden, and release a nutty fragrant. Add oil (at this stage you can determine the color of the final product of Halva).
